All the recent news and events, terrorism, bombings, random shootings and other acts of violence, are causing a large portion of the population to be fearful and worry about what is going to happen next. Will it happen to me or my loved ones? Even Dr Oz is talking about this and having guests like Iyanla Vanzant on to help us deal with these fears.
Actually, if you sit back and look around you and think back objectively on events you will realize that most of what you 'worry' about never happens. It all starts with your mind and perhaps a bit of faith knowing that there is no reason to fear, even though you hear about tragic events almost everyday. The media knows that fear sells and they give us an extra portion of images that promotes the same.
I for one will not buy this wholesaling of fear. Is it possible for something to happen to me and if so how probable? The probability of something negative happening is virtually non existent, the odds are in your favor in a huge way. Personally, I choose the path of knowing I am and will always be living joyfully. Why would I want to allow my mind to go down a dark and fearful path based on pure fantasy and speculation? It takes a lot less energy to choose happiness and it makes me feel great!
The real issue is controlling the mind. If you find it meandering down a dark and scary path - STOP - take a deep breath and introduce a happier thought into that seemingly unstoppable stream of thoughts. That thought could be anything happy and joyful and this can be enough to alter the thought process. Do this often enough and you will find that your 'recurring' stream of thoughts will naturally go towards optimistic and happier images.
The first step is just noticing the constant stream of thoughts. Then begin the exercise of gently introducing the positive thoughts over and over again. Simple but not easy as they say but well worth the effort!
To your health and well being!
