  • 20 Ways to Stay Healthy During Cold and Flu Season

20 Ways to Stay Healthy During Cold and Flu Season

    1. Eat raw fruits and veggies daily, preferably half of your food intake.  Try to vegetablesmake as many of those fruits and vegetables bright and colorful. Colorful fruits and vegetables have a high antioxidant content. Antioxidants help to assist your immune system and prevent you from getting sick.

    2. Avoid all dairy foods especially during an outbreak but also when congested. Raw dairy is much better but also best avoided when congested.

    3. Avoid processed meats and any meat from animals raised with hormones and antibiotics. These antibiotic residues weaken our guts by killing off beneficial gut flora. We should replace and maintain normal gut flora by making probiotics an essential part of our daily regimen.

    4. Avoid all processed foods, artificial sweeteners, hydrogenated oils, refined carbohydrates, high fructose corn syrup, food colorings, MSG etc.

    5. Take apple cider vinegar in water daily. (1 tbsp in 4oz water) and or the juice of ½ a lemon in 4oz water.

    6. Take a high quality greens formula daily. Eat more greens in your diet such as kalekale, collards, beet greens etc…

    7. Use only extra virgin coconut oil to cook with. Use cold pressed olive or flax seed oil on salads. Especially avoid all hydrogenated and denatured fats, which upset your hormonal balance. This in turn causes stress and weakens your immune system.

    8. Take a high quality Vitamin D supplement during winter months or if you do not get sufficient sun exposure. When the sun is out, try to expose as much of your body as you can to the sun between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. Try to get at least 15 minutes of sun exposure. Sun exposure should vary depending upon your skin pigment. The lighter the skin the less sun exposure.

    9. Get daily exercise and maintain an upright posture. Upright posture helps maintain optimal respiratory and lymphatic function.

    10. Avoid public places during any outbreak.

    11. Wash your hands thoroughly with natural vegetable based soap. Avoid using antibacterial soaps, which kill the good bacteria on your skin. Washing off dirt and perspiration is all you need to do where hand washing is concerned. Use the same practice on your body.

    12. Eliminate fluoride from your water supply with a good water filtration system. Also filter chlorine out of the water you use to shower with. Both chlorine and fluoride depress your immune system.

    13. Use only natural, non-chemical personal care products such as shampoos, soaps, creams etc. If you would not put it in your mouth, do not put it on your skin.

    14. Wear natural fiber clothing.  This in itself has an effect on your body’s electro-magnetic field. Synthetic clothing weakens that field. A weakened magnetic field lowers immune activity.

    15. Keep your living space free from clutter. Keep your kitchen and bathroom surfaces clean. Use grapefruit seed extract to disinfect, mixed with water. Use 7 to 10 drops for a quart spray bottle. This is also a great gargle (2 drops to 2 oz warm water) for sore throats.

    16. In times of an outbreak use a quart spray bottle with the following essential oils in it; eucalyptus, pine, grapefruit, orange and lemon. Use 12-15 drops of each oil.

    17. Watch your emotions. Keep your stress levels low with deep breathing, good communication and a healthy lifestyle. Stress weakens the immune system.

    18. Take immune building herbs such as astragulus, ashwagandha, echinacea, reishiosha root, shatavari, Siberian ginseng, reishi , maitake, cordyceps, agaricus, shiitake and coriolus. These herbs and mushrooms all work to help prevent you from getting sick.

    19. Adopt a healthy sleep regimen. Lack of sleep weakens your immune system and in many studies has been repeatedly demonstrated to have effects ranging from immune system suppression to increased blood pressure and poor sugar metabolism.

    20. Keep well hydrated. When you are dehydrated, your cells do not function as well, your circulation becomes more sluggish and your blood pressure tends to rise.

  • Protein Supplements can be Dangerous!

I have been telling people for years now that the 'protein myth' is alive and well in the U.S. and apparently the world considering the news today that a 25 year old body builder in Australia died from what appears to be excessive consumption of protein and protein supplements.

I have had the opportunity to speak with a few body builders after they had blood work done and the line of questioning goes like this:  Do you take a lot of protein isolates?  They invariably answer in the affirmative.  Next question:  How does you liver panel look?  The answer is invariably will there were some problematic issues in my last panel.  Too much of just about anything can harm your health.  Protein in excessive amounts certainly qualifies as a harmful product if done in large amounts.

My advice is BE CAREFUL with any protein supplement and please watch your diet.  Even lean meats in excessive amounts can be harmful especially if it is the 'conventional' type beef, full of BGH, antibiotics and lord know what else.  These sort of chemicals can accumulate in the body and cause all sorts of issues.

We always like to use as much vegetable sourced proteins as they come with all the good fats and oils required to break down proteins.  This is so important and why many of the protein isolates out there can be harmful, they are devoid of naturally occurring fats an oils!  Hemp hearts are a great example, while not as high in protein per serving, they are a tasty and highly nutritious food that contains great omega 3 and 6s.  Food combining is something we should all do to maximize proteins in our diets, rice/grains and beans/legumes for example.  I don't know of a single incident where someone died of over doing these types of foods.  Make sure they are organic!

Enerhealth Botanicals tries to present good information concerning your health and ways to achieve optimum health.  For everyone that phrase, 'optimum health' can carry different meanings and we try to meet people where they find themselves on the health continuum.  Enerhealth also offers a variety of organic nutritional supplements, foodaceuticals, that can help you achieve your personal goals, whatever they may be.

  • Colon Cancer is on the rise, Why?

Wow, you would think that someone might make a connection.  What goes into the mouth, ends up in the gut and out the colon.  Does anyone think that it might be diet?  Perhaps the influx of GMOs?  This would be an interesting study that will probably not happen.  Lots of great drugs and radical radiation and chemo to ‘cure’ all your ills!

The article says: “To reduce your risk of colon and rectal cancers, Siegel recommended maintaining a healthy body weight, staying physically active, avoiding drinking alcohol excessively and avoiding smoking.”  All of which is true but the odd part missing is what I mention above!  Perhaps a better diet, one that eliminates as much as possible GMOs and high quality supplements could be the best preventative measures!

Here at Enerhealth Botanicals we believe in proper nutrition and great herbal supplements to achieve and maintain optimum health!  Our view on this subject does not include GMO anything!

  • Chocolate is good for you!

Researchers Say Eating Chocolate Every Day Can Have Serious Health Benefits.

chocolate_stack_shutterstockGreat News: Thanks to new research by the American Heart Association, chocoholics have yet another healthy reason to justify their habit.

Researchers have found a link between daily chocolate consumption and heart health, according to recent findings presented at the association's Epidemiology/Lifestyle 2016 Scientific Sessions. Eating chocolate on a daily basis may improve insulin levels and liver enzymes in adults, according to a study presented at the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology/Lifestyle 2016 Scientific Sessions.

Researchers studied 1,153 adults, ages 18 to 69 years between 2007 and 2009. Of all the participants, 81.8 percent were classified as chocolate consumers. They found that consuming 100 mg of chocolate daily was associated with lower levels of insulin resistance, serum insulin and liver enzymes, markers associated with heart disease risk. The study concluded that chocolate consumers were more likely to be younger, physically active, affluent people, who had higher education levels and fewer chronic health issues.

This study is just a small part of a large growing body of evidence discovering more and more health benefits of daily chocolate consumption. Dark chocolate is packed with organic compounds that are biologically active and function as antioxidants. A recent study showed that cocoa and dark chocolate contained more antioxidant activity, polyphenols, and flavanols than other fruits they tested, which included blueberries and Acai berries.

In a study of 470 elderly men, cocoa was found to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death by a whopping 50% over a 15-year period. Another study revealed that eating chocolate 2 or more times per week lowered the risk of having calcified plaque in the arteries by 32%. Eating chocolate less frequently had no effect. Yet another study showed that chocolate 5+ times per week lowered the risk of cardiovascular disease by 57%.

Cocoa MojoIt’s becoming more and more clear that eating chocolate on a daily basis is not only delicious for chocolate lovers, but is so very good for our overall health and wellness.

By combining the health benefits of chocolate with the immune supporting benefit of medicinal mushrooms, Enerhealth Botanicals has created Organic Cocoa Mojo - the most delicious and healthy cocoa powder available! Immune Boosting Benefits of Medicinal Mushrooms

Mushrooms have been used for centuries by traditional healers to help strengthen the immune system. A good source of calcium, magnesium, potassium, fiber, niacin, essential amino acids and Vitamins B and D, mushrooms have been used in China and elsewhere around the world as natural remedies, and to help boost immunity for centuries.

The following fungi are well known for their purported beneficial properties including:

Agaricus blazei - This nutrient-dense mushroom contains higher levels of protein than most other mushrooms. In traditional Chinese medicine Agaricus blazei was known to help build immunity and promote healthy body weight, and as a detoxifier to help improve liver function.

Cordyceps - This mushroom, which grows out of caterpillar larvae in the Himalayas. has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to help treat conditions including coughing, wheezing, reducing fatigue, and to calm nervousness. Cordyceps mushrooms are also revered for their potential to enhance physical performance.

Coriolus versicolor - This mushroom has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries but since the1970s has become one of the most widely researched mushrooms in conventional medicine. More than 400 studies have evaluated Coriolus mushrooms for their immune-boosting qualities.

Ganoderma - This mushroom grows on wood and is one of Asia's most popular medicinal mushrooms. Many species of Ganoderma contain bioactive compounds and antioxidants that have potential therapeutic benefits including promoting liver health, helping reduce cholesterol, and may have antimicrobial qualities.

Maitake - Maitake mushrooms grow in clusters at the base of oak trees and are native to Northeastern Japan and North America. In 2009, a human trial showed Maitake could stimulate the immune systems.

Shiitake - Traditional Chinese herbalists have used shiitake mushrooms to help with ailments including gastrointestinal distress, and liver problems. It is known that ancient physicians prescribed shiitake to boost chi, or life energy. Today, shiitake mushrooms are a subject of intense research, and the medicinal capabilities attributed to the mushroom are so prized that it is now among the most cultivated of the world's edible mushrooms.
